Detailed Introduction
background:
RPMI 1640 medium was originally developed for suspension culture or culture of human leukemia cells. Its name comes from the Roswell Park Memorial Institute where it was developed . According to research, this medium is also suitable for the growth of a variety of mammalian cells, including Hela , Jurkat , MCF-1 , PBMC , etc. The characteristics of RPMI 1640 medium are that it contains glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. In addition, the three components of biotin, vitamin B12 and PABA are not found in DMEM medium. This medium does not contain proteins, lipids and growth factors, so when used for cell culture, it is usually necessary to add 10% fetal bovine serum.
