Detailed Introduction
Antigen Name:
Human IL-2 Protein, His Tag
Other Names:
IL2, TCGF, lymphokine, Interleukin 2.
background:
Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an interleukin, a cytokine immune system signaling molecule, which is a white blood cell growth hormone that helps the body to respond naturally to microbial infections and distinguish between self and foreign (non-self). IL-2 exerts its effects by binding to the IL-2 receptor expressed by lymphocytes, which are the cells responsible for immunity. Mature human IL-2 has 56% and 66% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat IL-2, respectively. Human and mouse IL-2 exhibit cross-species activity. The receptor for IL-2 consists of three subunits, which are present on the cell surface in different preformed complexes (preformed complexes). During thymic T cell development, IL-2 is also required for the maturation of a unique subset of T cells, which are called regulatory T cells (T-regs). After leaving the thymus, the function of T-Regs is to prevent other T cells from recognizing and fighting " self-antigens", which can lead to "autoimmunity". T-Regs do this by preventing the responding cells from producing IL-2. IL-2 is therefore required for the discrimination of self from non-self, another unique feature of the immune system.
Sequence source:
Human IL-2 Protein, His Tag is expressed by Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells; the protein number is P60568-1 (Ala21-Thr153), with His tag.
Molecular Weight:
The theoretical molecular weight is 17.3kDa. Due to glycosylation, the molecular weight of SDS-PAGE reduction electrophoresis is 18kDa and 19kDa.
